General Event Day Tips

  1. Wear your AustinONE t-shirt or a WHITE t-shirt so our group is easily identified within the neighborhood (an Austin Police Dept request). Make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint/dirt on. You may be asked to work in an overgrown garden or at creek cleanup, so we recommend that you bring a pair of jeans.
  2. Wear CLOSED TOED SHOES that you don't mind getting dirty.
Eat a good breakfast before coming.
  3. Pack a sack lunch or grab fast food on the way to your project (please make sure you tell your group leader if you are doing this).
  4. Bring the following:
    · Work gloves and other supplies your group leaders suggest (put YOUR NAME on anything you bring).
    · Jeans - in case you work at creek cleanup or in the Mission Possible garden
    · Sack lunch
    · Bottled water
    · Snacks
    · Sunscreen
    · Bug repellant
  5. We are getting supplies from Keep Austin Beautiful, the City of Austin, and Hands on Housing. Your group leader may ask you to bring other supplies as well (if possible)
  6. Do not leave valuables visible in your car.
  7. PLEASE CHECK-IN at Kealing Middle School between 9am and 10am or before heading to your project if you are coming later. (address: 1607 Pennsylvania Ave, Austin, TX 78702 [MAP])
  8. You will receive a map to your location(s) on Saturday.
  9. PLEASE STAY IN YOUR ASSIGNED GROUPS. We have put you in specific groups and ask that you stay in them for organizational purposes and for your safety. We need at least one guy in every group, esp groups going out for curb painting, neighborhood cleanup, and creek cleanup.
  10. Be alert in the neighborhood. Travel in groups of at least three or four people. We will be working in the area of Austin that has the highest crime rate. APD will be patrolling the area.
  11. BE FLEXIBLE - Again, you may be asked to work at one location for 1/2 the day and another location (like a widow's home or creek cleanup) for the remainder of the day.
  12. Important Announcements and the Worship Service will start at 10am.
  13. Be willing to pray or share your testimony with people you meet.
  14. Invite people in the neighborhood to come to the Kealing Middle School for the FREE PIZZA dinner at 5:30pm - We'll give you flyers to hand out.
  15. Got a camera? Bring it! :) We'd love to have a copy of your photos for our website!
  16. Make sure you take breaks during the afternoon!
  17. Expect God to do great things!
  18. Enjoy the day!
  19. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you aren't going to be able to help on event day, PLEASE email krissy@austinone.org. We've made a commitment to get the service projects completed so we need to be sure that we have a sufficient number of volunteers working on each project throughout the afternoon.

    See you Saturday!!
